About Pagelight
Pagelight is a small web development consultancy located in Aberystwyth, Wales. We specialize in fast, attractive and highly usable websites with a focus on collaborating with our customers to serve their unique needs. Here are some of the projects Pagelight is currently working on:
Wildlife habitat planning is the process of considering wildlife habitat during the land-use planning and property development. 1000 Friends of Florida is working on a guide that is designed to help landowners and citizens effectively use habitat planning techniques. The website, www.floridahabitat.org, was developed as a tool to help develop the guide and as a resource in its own right.
To that end we implemented a two-part community-driven site. There is a private site for the large technical advisory group who provide comments on the guide, and then there is a public site which includes a blog, 'Creature of Habitat', and the Habitat Planning Wiki.
The site provides users with such features as a Word-like webpage editor that allows every page on the site to be modified (and new pages to be added) with ease, a useful tool for uploading and organizing images and a powerful search engine.
The organizers of the festival wanted an attractive site that would promote the festival as well as serve as convenient archive of pictures and video from the festival. The site combines lean html/css for the essential information with Flash for slideshows, galleries and streaming video.
The Ichetucknee river is a much-loved tourist destination among North and Central Floridians. Year round they are to be found floating on inflated tires down the gorgeous spring fed river, through pristine forest and limestone rock formations, enjoying one of Florida's most peaceful and relaxing attractions. However this hidden paradise is fed by a large watershed (known as the Ichetucknee Springs Basin) that has become increasingly developed in recent years. The various forms of property development have led to a steep rise in pollutants contaminating the water, which in turn has caused the growth of poisonous algae and the depletion of many core species.
The Ichetucknee Springs Basin Working Group was formed to help improve the situation. They hired us to construct a site that would serve as a means of educating the public about the current threats to this regional treasure, help organize interested citizens to contribute effectively to the protection of the Springs and serve as a scientific knowledgebase for the group.
